POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Finance (DOF) is a regular full-time administrative position. The Director of Finance oversees the Finance Team and ensures relevant, competent financial services to all program areas of AAFS and the Transferred Agencies. The DOF is responsible for the development and ongoing implementation of financial systems, providing financial and accounting services including, but not limited to planning, annual budgeting, expenditure control, cash flow forecasts, quarterly reporting, and year-end audit procedures. The DOF provides technical support to the Transferred Agencies with financial and statistical reporting to ensure monthly budget expectations and expenditures are within approved budget allocations. The DOF is a member of the Senior Management Team and reports to the Executive Director in all aspects of job function.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • C.P.A. with four years direct related experience in a human service agency is preferred, however a combination of related education, experience and skills may be considered.
  • Knowledge of Customary Care, member First Nation communities and social structures, Anishinaabe family systems, as well as local customs and traditions.
  • Knowledge of Abinoojii Inkanyezi, Bill-C-92 and AAFS Devolution Model, and the CYFSA.
  • Thorough knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of AAFS, including but not limited to the Finance Policy and Procedure Manual, Information Technology Policy, Personnel Policy, Children in Care Services Manual, Foster Care Licensing Manual, and the Caregiver Handbook.
  • Expert knowledge of Provincial and Federal reporting and the Broader Public Sector Directives and ensures compliance.
  • Ensures financial and administrative services are delivered with excellence and conform to provincial and federal legislation, regulations and standards, generally accepted accounting principles, provincial and federal funding frameworks, as well as AAFS philosophy, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ensures accurate and timely recording of all financial data including revenues, accounts receivable, accounts payable, verification and authorization of disbursements, reconciliations, and monthly updates of the general ledger accounts for preparation of regular financial reports and statements for both AAFS and the Transferred Agencies.
  • Provides technical support to the Executive Director, Transferred Agencies, Board of Directors and Finance Committee.
  • Prepares and submits regular and ongoing financial reports and schedules for review by the Executive Director.
  • Assists the Board appointed Auditor to prepare the year-end financial statements.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management, planning, problem-solving, decision-making, evaluation, and leadership skills with a working knowledge of group dynamics, consultation, and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Excellent assessment and analytical skills with proven ability to determine successful outcomes and goals.
  • Ability to flex daily work hours.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s Licence and be willing to travel and clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work normal business hours but may be required to do some work in the evenings or outside normal working hours. Able to work on a computer for long periods of time. Required to spend long hours concentrating which will require attention to detail and high levels of accuracy; and required to meet a number of deadlines which may cause stress. Travel to semi-remote Anishinaabe communities on rough and winding class “C” roadways.

 

SALARY RANGE:  $100,291 – $123,000
